Mercury retrograde (9 February to 3 March)

Mercury turns retrograde on 9 February at about 11ยฐ44' Aquarius, slips back into Capricorn on 24 February, and turns direct on 3 March at about 26ยฐ40' Capricorn. It returns to Aquarius on 12 March.

Retrograde Mercury is classically linked with delays and rework in communication, contracts, travel bookings and technology. It is a good time to revise, edit, reconnect and fix, and a less good time to sign major contracts or launch something new. If you can choose, sign important papers after Mercury turns direct, ideally after it is back in Aquarius in mid-March.

Sun enters Aquarius (13 February)

On 13 February the Sun moves from Capricorn into Aquarius (Kumbh), Saturn's other sign: Kumbh Sankranti. In Vedic astrology the Sun and Saturn are natural enemies, so the Sun's month in Aquarius is traditionally read through themes of teamwork, service and long-term goals rather than personal recognition. The Sun stays in Aquarius until it enters Pisces on 15 March.

The lunar eclipse of 21 February

A penumbral lunar eclipse takes place in the early hours of Sunday 21 February 2027 (the night of 20โ€“21 February). Seen from New Delhi it begins at about 2:42 am, is greatest at about 4:42 am and ends at about 6:43 am IST, with the Moon low in the western sky. At the time the Moon is in Leo, in Magha nakshatra, opposite the Sun in Aquarius.

In a penumbral eclipse the Moon only passes through the Earth's outer, lighter shadow. At its greatest (about 4:42 am) the Moon is above the horizon across India (in the east it sets before the eclipse ends), but the dimming is so slight that it may not be noticeable to the naked eye. Most panchangs do not treat a penumbral eclipse as a full grahan, so no sutak is usually observed. Rashis with the Moon in Leo (Singh), or Leo rising, may still prefer a quiet, reflective day.

Annular solar eclipse of 6 February

An annular ("ring of fire") solar eclipse occurs on 6 February 2027, but it happens after sunset in India and is seen only from parts of the southern hemisphere and Africa. It is not visible from India, so it has no sutak or ritual observance here.

Venus enters Capricorn (24 February)

Venus spends most of February in Sagittarius, a friendly sign for relationships, travel and learning. On 24 February it moves into Capricorn, Saturn's sign, where Venus is comfortable: steady, loyal and practical in love and money. Venus is direct and not combust, so the wedding season continues through February. See Venus and Marriage Timing.

Mars and Jupiter stay retrograde

Mars is retrograde in Leo all month and moves back into Cancer on 9 March. Jupiter is retrograde in Cancer, its sign of exaltation, and turns direct on 13 April. With three planets retrograde in February, it suits finishing, reviewing and correcting more than starting fresh.

What it means for each rashi

Transits are read by house from your Moon sign. The table shows the house the Sun (in Aquarius from 13 Feb) and Venus (in Capricorn from 24 Feb) occupy for each rashi. The Sun gives good results in the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th houses from the Moon; Venus in every house except the 6th, 7th and 10th. A โœ“ marks a favourable house.

Rashi Sun in Aquarius Venus in Capricorn Short reading
Mesh 11th โœ“ 10th Gains through networks; career needs diplomacy
Vrishabh 10th โœ“ 9th โœ“ Recognition at work and good fortune together
Mithun 9th 8th โœ“ Unexpected support; avoid disputes with elders
Kark 8th 7th Patience in partnerships; slow down on new risks
Singh 7th 6th Eclipse in your sign: a quiet month for reflection
Kanya 6th โœ“ 5th โœ“ Win over competition; creativity and romance
Tula 5th 4th โœ“ Comfort at home; think before speculating
Vrishchik 4th 3rd โœ“ Effort and communication pay; home needs attention
Dhanu 3rd โœ“ 2nd โœ“ Courage and money both supported

Kumbh 1st 12th โœ“ The Sun on your sign: focus and visibility; rest and comforts
Meen 12th 11th โœ“ Gains through Venus; expenses with the Sun

This is a general guide. Your dasha decides which transits you'll feel most.

Frequently asked questions

When is Mercury retrograde in February 2027? From 9 February to 3 March 2027. It begins in Aquarius, moves back into Capricorn on 24 February and turns direct there.

Is the 21 February 2027 lunar eclipse visible in India? The Moon is above the horizon during it, before dawn: from about 2:42 am to 6:43 am IST in New Delhi, greatest at about 4:42 am. But it is a penumbral eclipse, so the dimming is very subtle and may not be noticeable to the naked eye; no sutak is usually observed.

Is the 6 February 2027 solar eclipse visible in India? No. It happens after sunset in India and is visible only from parts of the southern hemisphere and Africa.

When does the Sun enter Aquarius in 2027? On 13 February 2027 (Kumbh Sankranti). It stays there until 15 March.

Is February 2027 good for marriage? It can offer wedding muhurats: Venus and Jupiter are not combust, and Kharmas only begins on 15 March. But that doesn't make the whole month auspicious. Each date still has to pass the panchang's own checks (tithi, nakshatra and the other muhurat rules), Mars and Jupiter are retrograde, and the eclipse day is usually avoided. Check exact dates in the Muhurat Finder.

Which rashis benefit most in February 2027? From these transits, Vrishabh (the Sun in the 10th, Venus in the 9th), Kanya (the Sun in the 6th, Venus in the 5th) and Dhanu (the Sun in the 3rd, Venus in the 2nd) get support from both planets. Mesh (the Sun in the 11th) and Meen (Venus in the 11th) get support from one. Other planets and your own dasha can change the picture.
