What Kaal Sarp dosha is
Rahu and Ketu always sit exactly opposite each other, which splits the zodiac into two halves. When all seven planets, from the Sun to Saturn, fall in one half, the pattern is called Kaal Sarp.
- How we check it: by whole signs, the same rule as our Yoga Calculator. A planet in the same sign as Rahu or Ketu counts as off the side, so that chart is not a full Kaal Sarp. Some astrologers use exact degrees and may differ.
- The 12 types: named by Rahu's house from the Lagna: Anant, Kulik, Vasuki, Shankhpal, Padma, Mahapadma, Takshak, Karkotak, Shankhachud, Ghatak, Vishdhar, Sheshnag.
- How old is it: the name isn't found in Parashara's main verses. Many astrologers use it, and others give it little weight.
Frequently asked questions
What is Kaal Sarp dosha?
It is the pattern where all seven planets, from the Sun to Saturn, fall on one side of the Rahu-Ketu axis.
Is Kaal Sarp dosha dangerous?
No single pattern decides a life. Many people with it do very well. It is weighed with the whole chart and the running dasha.
Is Kaal Sarp in the classical texts?
The name isn't found in Parashara's main verses, as far as is commonly accepted. Many astrologers use it, and others give it little weight.
What is a partial Kaal Sarp?
When six planets are on one side and one is not. Some astrologers call this partial, while most treat it as much weaker or don't count it. We show it separately and don't call it a full Kaal Sarp.
Do I need an expensive puja?
No one needs to pay out of fear. If you want to do a puja from your own faith, choose what suits your budget, and take a second opinion if someone is pushing you.
Why does another calculator say something different?
Some use exact degrees rather than whole signs, and some treat the direction of the planets differently. Our working is shown, so you can check it.
