How these Purnima dates are worked out
Purnima is the full Moon day, the 15th tithi of the bright half. Each tithi is found from the exact positions of the Sun and Moon, and the date listed is the one whose sunrise falls inside it, the rule a panchang follows for the day's tithi. For the full day, with nakshatra, Rahu Kaal and muhurats, open the daily panchang; for today in Hindi, see aaj ki tithi.

What is Purnima?
Purnima is the full Moon day, the 15th tithi of the bright half. A tithi is a lunar day: the time the Moon takes to move 12° ahead of the Sun, so it lasts roughly 19 to 26 hours and can begin at any hour.
Why is the date given for the day after the tithi begins?
A day takes the tithi that is running at its sunrise (udaya tithi). If a tithi begins after sunrise, the next day's sunrise falls in it, so that day is listed. When a tithi begins and ends between two sunrises (kshaya), it is listed on the day it begins and marked.
Is this the same as the fasting date?
Not always. These are tithi dates. Some fasts follow their own rule: Ekadashi is not kept when Dashami is still running at dawn, Pradosh is kept when Trayodashi falls at sunset, and Purnima vrat can fall on the day before the snan date. Our festival posts give the fasting date for each city.
Do the dates change by city?
The start and end times are the same moment everywhere (shown in India time), but sunrise is not, so the listed date can differ between cities. These dates are for New Delhi; pick another city above.
