Many people come to astrology after years of waiting, asking why marriage hasn't happened yet. Vedic astrology has well-known combinations for delayed marriage (vivah mein deri). The most important thing to understand first: delay is not denial. These combinations describe the path, not the destination, and many charts with them show a stable, lasting marriage once the right time comes.
Common signs of late marriage in a kundli
No single factor decides it. Astrologers look for several of these together:
1. Saturn's influence on the 7th house
Saturn is the planet of time and delay. When it sits in the 7th house, aspects it (Saturn aspects the 3rd, 7th and 10th from itself), or joins the 7th lord, marriage often comes later than average. Saturn's gift is durability: marriages it delays tend to be serious and long-lasting.
2. Saturn's influence on Venus

3. The 7th lord in a difficult house
A 7th lord in the 6th, 8th or 12th house is classically linked with delays, obstacles or distance in marriage. Its strength matters: a 7th lord in its own sign or exalted in these houses still delivers.
4. A weak 7th lord or Venus
A debilitated or combust 7th lord or Venus, without cancellation, can slow things down.
5. Malefics in or around the 7th house

6. The Navamsa (D9) chart
Saturn on the D9 Lagna or 7th house, or a weak Navamsa 7th lord, repeats the theme of delay.
7. The dasha sequence

What about Manglik dosha?
Mars in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house (counted from the Lagna, and often also from the Moon and Venus) is called Manglik dosha. It is often blamed for delay, but classical texts give many exceptions that cancel it, such as Mars in its own or exaltation sign, or both partners being Manglik. It describes energy in relationships; on its own it does not stop marriage.
Why "late" is relative
What counts as late has changed a lot. Many people now marry after finishing their studies and settling into a career, and charts with Saturn's influence often fit that path naturally. The useful question isn't "why is it late?" but "when does my chart support it?"

Rather than focusing on the delaying factors, look for the periods where the chart supports marriage:
- List the dashas of your 7th lord, the planets in your 7th, and Venus.

Traditional remedies are about building patience and strengthening the right planets:
- For Saturn: discipline, service, and charity on Saturdays; respecting elders and workers.
- For Venus: worship of Goddess Lakshmi or Durga on Fridays; keeping relationships and surroundings harmonious.
- For Jupiter: prayers on Thursdays, respect for teachers, and giving to students.
- Katyayani puja is a traditional prayer for marriage.
Remedies are a personal and religious choice. Be careful of anyone who says only an expensive ritual can fix your chart.
