"When will I get a job?" "Is this a good year to change jobs?" "When will my promotion come?" These are timing questions, and Vedic astrology answers them with two tools: the dasha you're running and the transits of Jupiter and Saturn. This guide explains how job prediction by date of birth works, which houses and periods matter, and how to read the timing in your own chart. The houses of a job
Four houses describe work and income:
- 10th house: career, position, promotion, reputation.
- 6th house: service, employment, a salaried job (naukri), competition, interviews.
- 2nd house: income and savings.
- 11th house: gains, salary hikes, fulfilment of goals.
A job, as opposed to a business, is read mainly from the 6th and 10th. Business and self-employment lean on the 7th (partners and clients) and the 10th.
One useful classical idea: the 10th, 6th, 2nd and 11th are each linked. The 6th is the 9th (luck) from the 10th, and the 2nd and 11th are the houses of income. Periods that activate several of them together are the strongest job periods.
Step 1: the dasha
Most career events happen in the Mahadasha or Antardasha of a planet connected to these houses:
- the 10th lord, or a planet in the 10th,
- the 6th lord, or a planet in the 6th (getting a job, service),
- the 2nd or 11th lord (income, hikes),
- a planet aspecting the 10th, or the 10th lord's dispositor.
Ask: "Does my current dasha planet rule, occupy or aspect the 6th, 10th, 2nd or 11th?" If yes, career themes are switched on. If the dasha planet is linked to the 12th or 8th instead, it may bring a change of place, a break, or work abroad.
Step 2: Jupiter and Saturn transits
The dasha shows the period; transits narrow it to months.
- Double transit: when Jupiter and Saturn both influence the 10th house (or the 10th lord), by transit or aspect, at the same time, a career event is likely, provided the dasha supports it.
- Jupiter transiting or aspecting the 10th house, the 10th lord or the Lagna opens doors: new offers, recognition, promotion.
- Saturn transiting the 3rd, 6th or 11th from your Moon is classically favourable for work and income. Saturn over the 10th brings responsibility and hard-won rises.

The transits for 2027 are in Shani Gochar 2027: Saturn enters Aries on 3 June 2027. Jupiter enters Leo on 31 October 2026, returns to Cancer from late January to late June 2027, then moves through Leo into Virgo in late November 2027.
Step 3: confirm with the D10
The D10 (Dashamsa) is the career chart. A dasha planet that is well placed in the D10, in a kendra or trikona, or in its own or exalted sign, delivers career results more clearly. A dasha planet that is weak in the D10 may bring jobs that don't satisfy.

A worked example
A real chart from NavAstro's calculator, for an example birth (not a real person): 12 August 1994, 6:40 am, Lucknow. Leo Lagna.
- The houses: the 10th (Taurus) is empty; its lord Venus sits in the 2nd house. The 6th (Capricorn) is empty; its lord Saturn sits in the 7th in its own sign. The 11th holds Mars, the yogakaraka.
- The dasha: Jupiter Mahadasha (2018–2034). Jupiter aspects the 11th house and Mars there. Inside it, the Venus Antardasha runs from 13 November 2025 to 14 July 2028. Venus is the 10th lord, so this is the main career window of the Jupiter period.
- The transits: Jupiter enters Leo, the Lagna, on 31 October 2026, a supportive transit for the self and new beginnings. From late November 2027 Jupiter moves into Virgo, from where its 9th aspect falls on Taurus, the 10th house, during the same Venus Antardasha. From June 2027, Saturn in Aries aspects Gemini, the 11th house of gains, where Mars sits.
Reading: 2026–28 is a strong period for career moves in this chart, with late 2027 to early 2028, when Jupiter aspects the 10th inside the 10th lord's Antardasha, as the sharpest window for a new role or promotion. That's what a timing reading looks like: a period from the dasha, then months from the transits.
Common mistakes
- Using transits alone. "Jupiter is in my 10th, so I'll get a job" fails without a supporting dasha.
- Reading from the date only. The 6th and 10th houses need the birth time and place; with the date alone, astrologers count from the Moon, which is less precise.
- Treating a window as a guarantee. Astrology points to favourable periods; applications, skills and choices still decide the outcome.

Is it a good time to change my job? Check whether your current antardasha connects to the 10th or 3rd house, and whether Jupiter supports your 10th house by transit.
